PNDS provides a platform for collective action through educated, skilled and trained professionals who will assume consultative and leadership roles in academia, health-related institutions, and corporate sectors. This shall be achieved through capacity building and accreditation of professionals in nutrition; networking and partnership with the government, national and international institutions; public awareness; and advocacy.
PNDS was Registered in 2003 by a small group of Qualified Dietitians/Nutritionists with the objective to represent, promote and advance the science of food, nutrition and dietetics through capacity building of its members in order to improve nutrition situation of people of Pakistan. Within a short span of 15 years PNDS has grown to be the only National Society with more than 1000 members across country and abroad. At present there are three functional Chapters in Islamabad, Lahore and Faisalabad.The Society is also internationally affiliated with AFDA (Asian Federation of Dietetic Association), representative of Pakistan at ICDA (International Confederation of Dietetic Association) and collaborator of American Society of Nutrition(ASN) & UK Nutrition Society.
PNDS believes it is in the best interest of the profession and the public it serves to have a Code of Ethics in place that provides guidance to Human Nutrition Professionals (HNPs) in their professional practice and conduct.
Based on the guidelines provided by the Pakistan Accreditation of Nutrition and Dietetic Professionals (PANAP), PNDS has developed a registration exam to certify practicing dietitians and nutritionists.
With changing times, dietetic professionals are being progressively recognized and acknowledged by the government sector, the food industry, health professionals and the public for their effective role in leading the way to better nutrition
